Director, Office of Vehicle Crash Avoidance and Electronic Controls Research
Directing the development, execution, and delivery of research and test programs related to vehicle safety, crash avoidance, highly automated vehicles, electronic controls, human factors, and other areas, in support of Agency vehicle and traffic safety programs and motor vehicle safety standards. Formulating budget requirements, strategy, research plans, and other activities necessary to address potential safety risks presented by vehicle electronic control systems, including software, fail safe strategies, systems engineering, testing, cybersecurity. Structuring and conducting strategic research, test, and evaluation programs necessary to establish a scientific, engineering, and technical information base supporting current and proposed safety standards involving, requiring, or affecting the operating systems of all vehicles, as well as special innovative projects spanning gaps in fundamental knowledge regarding vehicle safety performance criteria and metrics to evaluate such performance. Representing the Agency as a leading authority on matters related to vehicle crash avoidance and electronic controls research.
